Things You'll Need:
- Internet access
- Dress ideas
- Soft measuring tape
-
Step 1
Go to a website that offer online dress design, such as the ones listed in the Resources section below.
-
Step 2
Select your basic dress style from the list of choices, depending on the bodice style you want, how long and full you want the skirt, and how closely fitted you want the dress.
-
Step 3
Choose from various neckline options, such as a v-neck, mock turtle or a mandarin neckline.
-
Step 4
Choose a sleeve style for the dress, such as straps, cap sleeves or short sleeves.
-
Step 5
Choose a length for the dress, such as knee-length, mid-calf or ankle-length.
-
Step 6
Select a fabric type, color and design for the dress. Cotton and linen work well for summer dresses, while fabrics such as silk, crepe and velvet look better for fancy dresses. Suiting fabrics and corduroys are appropriate for work dresses. Some sites also allow you to supply your own fabric. Be sure to follow their guidelines for what type of fabric to buy and how much to supply.
-
Step 7
Choose any optional features for the dress, such as contrasting trim, ruffles, a waistband, a low-cut back or pockets.
-
Step 8
Select a size for the dress. If you don’t know your measurements, measure the fullest part of your bust, waist and hips using a flexible measuring tape, over the type of undergarments you would wear with the dress. The measuring tape should be snug, but comfortable. If the website offers custom sizes, you may be able to choose one size for the bust measurement and another for the hips.
-
Step 9
Review your design to make sure it’s just the design you want, then place your order.
