How to Determine the Acidity of Your Body

Our bodies must be in a state of balance for good health. Having a too-acidic body can lead to disease, the same way having an excessively alkaline body leads to health problems. Here we will explain how to test your saliva to determine if your body is too alkaline or acidic.

  1. How to Test Your Saliva to Determine Your pH Level

    • 1

Do not eat, drink or brush your teeth for at least 30 minutes prior to testing.

    • 2

      Get your pH test strips.

    • 3

Swallow several times, so that you can clear your mouth and stimulate new saliva.

    • 4

      Expectorate into a plastic spoon.

    • 5

Place the test strip into the saliva in the spoon and compare the color to the chart that came with the test-strip kit. A healthy range is 6.8 to 7.2. Anything lower than 6.8 is too acidic.

Continue testing for a few more weeks.

Tips & Warnings

  • While you can also test your urine, it is better to test your saliva, since urine results can be affected by such factors as: excess minerals, vitamins, drugs, toxins and metabolic products the body might be eliminating, preservatives you consume, pollutants in the air, stress, the foods you eat, how much water you drink and how much you rest.
