Glue them to a pin and make a brooch, or to a headband to provide a vintage look for any occasion, including a wedding. First used in the 1960s, panty hose come in an abundance of colors. When making flowers, any color will work. You may wish to dye tan or neutral colors before using them. Panty hose flowers help with recycling efforts and are a budget-friendly DIY project that is a great craft to share with the kids.

Things You'll Need

  • Floral wire
  • Wire cutters
  • Panty hose
  • Scissors
  • Nail polish
  • Artificial stamens
  • Floral tape
  • Artificial leaves
  • Cut three 9-inch strands of wire using wire cutters.

  • Cut the panty hose. Throw away the panty portion and the feet. Cut the remaining fabric into 4-inch by 4-inch squares.

  • Take clear finger nail polish and dab the beads on the artificial stamens. This will give them an antiqued look. Set them aside to dry while you work on the flower.

  • Bend one wire into a 2-inch petal shape. Twist the wire together at the bottom, leaving enough wire to use as a stem.

  • Holding your petal and nylon square, gently tug the hose over the wire. Gather the ends at the bottom and join the corners together. Pull the fabric as taut as possible. You may need to bend the wire more. It should be full in the center. Visualize a rose petal when shaping it.

  • Secure the base of the flower with wire. Position two inches of wire at the base of the petal and wrap it around several times. Wrap the remaining wire around to form a stem. Wrap floral tape around the base to secure it.

  • Repeat steps two and three to form two more petals.

  • Take two petals and, holding them together, add several stamens to the inside section. Add the third petal to cover the stamen. Use floral tape the secure all four items. Make sure you cover all wire completely with tape.

  • Add artificial leaves and tape them under the petal. Wrap tape around the stem of the flower to secure the leaves.
