Troublesome acne can pack a one-two punch, riddling your skin with inflamed red pimples and then when they disappear, leaving behind ugly scars to remind you of them. But you can make those acne scars disappear, too. Here’s how:

From Quick Guide: Treat Blemishes
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Skin lightening cream
  • Exfoliating cream
  • Cocoa butter
  • Moisturizer

How to Make Acne Scars Disappear

  1. Step 1

Encourage your body to make new skin to replace the old scarred skin. Do this by exfoliating and literally sloughing off old skin with a fine scrub once a week, turning over newer more vibrant skin.

  2. Step 2

Make a habit of applying a light, non-oily moisturizer to keep your skin conditioned after every face wash and to aid in the skin’s ability to get over a scar by regenerating new skin.

  3. Step 3

Apply a skin lightening or bleaching cream to the scar every morning and every night. This won’t actually turn you skin pale, but it will gradually lighten the area to which it is applied. The over-the-counter products contain 2% of the active ingredient Hydroquinone. You should see visible results in about 2 weeks.

  4. Step 4

Condition your skin every week with 100% cocoa butter. Just rub the hard stick onto your face, and blend with your fingertips. Let it sit for about 20 minutes before wiping away, but don’t wash it off. Coca butter is great for evening out skin tone all over the body. Use it on your knees and elbow, too.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you’re new to using a skin lightening product, choose a cream-form rather than a gel-form product. The gel works a lot quicker as it is absorbed faster, but its results are also harder to predict.
  • Before bed, dab the cream generously onto the marks and let it sit as you sleep. Getting ready for your day though, spread on a thinner layer, rubbing it in until it disappears.
