Highlighting your hair in multi-dimensions gives your hair more character and makes your style more interesting. Children's hair is the best example of natural multi-dimensional highlighting, as it tends to have many different colors while looking natural. This is the look you are trying to simulate with your highlights. The following will show you how to prepare for highlighting your hair in multi-dimensions.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Take into consideration the way the hair is cut before deciding upon color when highlighting the hair in multi-dimensions. If you have a lot of layers in your hair, you can use a lot of different colors to add dimension.

  2. Step 2

Choose a base color for your hair. This will be the main color of your hair to contrast the highlights you choose.

  3. Step 3

Pick a highlight color which will be the lightest color you want your hair. Make sure this color goes well with your base color. The highlight will be on the top outer portion of your hair to add dimension to the color.

  4. Step 4

Use a mid-light color to add extra dimension. This color will be just slightly off from your base color to blend in naturally without being too noticeable.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure to use the multi-dimensional highlighting to bring out your bangs if you have them.
  • Choose colors that blend into each other well to give your hair a natural look.
  • Multi-dimensional color can be sectioned into blocks along the hair in multiple shades. It should, however look natural to achieve the multi-dimensional look.
