How to Tour American Samoa

American Samoa is an unincorporated territory of the United States. Located in the south pacific, American Samoa is the southernmost territory of the United States. It's natural beauty attracts thousands of visitors every year. Organized tours of the islands are available, but if you want to set your own agenda, try organizing a tour on your own.

  1. Step 1

    Take a walking tour of Pago Pago village. Some sites to see include "Sadie's by the Sea Hotel", Government house, and the Jean P. Haydon Museum. You can get a complete guide to a walking tour at the Frommer's website.

  2. Step 2

    Visit Tutulia. It can be reached by a paved road off the main highway by starting at Spenser's Store in Pago Pago Village. It leads to Fagasa Village on the North shore of Tutulia. Attractions include Pyramid Rock and Lion's Head.

  3. Step 3

    Sail to Amanave Village and visit the local volcanic beaches. Then see the "turtle and shark" legend performed in nearby Vaitogi.

  4. Step 4

    See the Coral Reefs at Fagatele Bay. Take the opportunity to go diving, snorkeling or Kayaking. Equipment can be rented at many of the local beaches. You can go surfing at Alofay Bay, Carter Beach and Leone Bay.

  5. Step 5

    Hike in the National Park of American Samoa. This park consists of 3,000 acres on Tutulia and another 6,000 acres on the Manu'a Islands. It consists of colorful reefs, rain forests and beautiful beaches.
