Step 1
Begin with a clean palette, washing your face with a mild cleanser. If your skin tends to be on the oily side, use an astringent after cleansing and then protect your skin with a light, oil-free moisturizer.
-
Step 2
Apply a dab of under eye concealer to help prevent tired looking eyes in the daytime hours and then wear a foundation if you so choose. Even if you are accustomed to highlights and bronzers, they should be saved for your night makeup look.
-
Step 3
Give your skin healthy color with a light blush, choosing a color which is just a few shades darker than your natural skin tone. As a general rule, when choosing blush and eyeshadow for daytime makeup, the lighter your skin, the more pink you should go, while olive tones should stick with shades of brown. Apply the blush to the apples of your cheeks, blending up along the cheek bones.
-
Step 4
Choose neutral eyeshadow colors, such as rich reds, browns or pinks. Create your base by blending a light colored shadow from lash line to brow ridge and then apply a medium tone on top from the lashes to the eye crease. To add depth, lightly apply a dark shadow just to the crease of the eye.
-
Step 5
Use eyeliner lightly, applying directly to the upper and lower lash lines and then blending into the skin with a makeup sponge or cotton swab to keep your look as natural as possible. When applying mascara, wipe the excess liquid off of the brush to simply darken the lashes instead of applying a thick coat.
-
Step 6
Top off your daytime makeup look by wearing a clear lip gloss and nothing more.
