When dryness has your skin down in the dumps, cheer it up with a homemade candy cane sugar scrub. The gentle properties of crushed candy canes will exfoliate your skin to reveal the softness underneath. Use the scrub a few times a week all over your body -- with the exception of your face -- but if you notice your skin becoming red or irritated, scale back on the frequency or stop using it altogether.

Things You'll Need

  • Regular-sized candy cane
  • Plastic ziptop bag
  • Hammer
  • Bowl
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup olive or vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 vitamin E capsule
  • Spoon
  • Glass jar with lid
  • Body wash

Break up one regular-sized candy cane into pieces. Place the pieces in a plastic ziptop bag, then crush them with a hammer until you have a coarse powder.

Place the crushed candy cane pieces into a bowl. Add 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of olive or vegetable oil, 2 tablespoons of honey and the contents of one vitamin E capsule. Stir well with a spoon.

Mix in a few drops of lemon or peppermint essential oil. Transfer the mixture to a glass jar with a lid.

Scoop about a teaspoon of the scrub from the jar with your hands. Massage the scrub gently onto your skin using small, circular motions. Wait a few minutes before rinsing thoroughly with warm water. Wash your body with your regular body wash to remove any oily residue.

Tips & Warnings

  • Secure the lid on the glass jar to store any leftover scrub.
  • For a mess-free experience, use the scrub in the shower or bath.
  • The red dye in the candy cane may stain, so use with caution.
