How to Break a Pitbull's bad Habits
Dogs develop bad habits due to boredom, anxiety, lack of exercise and frustration. Positive training methods should be used to communicate and reinforce acceptable behavior and to work on correcting these bad habits. Pitbulls have a natural instinct to please their master and seek direction. By being a pack leader you will provide this necessary direction and keep a happy, well balanced dog.

1
Catch the dog in the act and acknowledge the pitbull's bad habit.
-
2
Assume a dominant leadership role by establishing rules, setting boundaries and limitations that challenge the dog's mind. Affection should be given but after discipline, creating more balance in the pets life.

3
Communicating with the pitbull in a positive manner makes it easier for him to learn. Project your intention to your dog and exhibit calm and assertive leadership at all times.
-
4
Exercise your pitbull with morning walks, allow play time with your children and other dogs and provide an additional evening stroll to help burn nervous energy. This is an important step in the ability to communicate with your dog.
-
5
Provide consequences to negative behavior such as taking away your attention that pitbulls especially crave. Placing the pitbull in a submissive position on his back and making eye contact helps establish dominance when a dog is exhibiting bad habits. You can also state "NO" in a low voice which will indicate your disapproval of his behavior.

Maintain consistent training techniques. Everyone communicating with the dog should use the same methods. Positive training methods include clicker training, using the same sound to get his attention and ignoring the dog as a result of negative behavior are all affective.
