  1. How to Attack in Field Hockey

    • 1

Stick to the stick. In order to attack, you must advance the ball down the field towards the goal using only the regulation stick. No other means can be used to advance the ball or score.

    • 2

Use the flat side of the stick. The attack can only be done by passing or dribbling the ball done the field with the flat side of the stick.

    • 3

Get to the striking circle. The object of the attack in field hockey is to score a goal. To do this, players can only shoot from a semicircle with a radius of 16 yards from the goal called the striking circle.

    • 4

Keep the ball in plain sight. The attackers must follow the rules of field hockey and you cannot shield the ball using your body or your stick.

    • 5

Keep your legs and feet out of it. When attacking in field hockey, you cannot use your foot or leg to give extra support to your stick when an opponent is attempting to take the ball from you.

    • 6

Keep your hands to yourself. Besides keeping your hands off opposing players while attacking, since hitting and shoving an opponent will result in a personal foul, you must also keep your hands off the ball when attacking.
