How to Strengthen Back With Isolated Lumbar Spine Apparatus
-
1
Stand as still as possible. An isolated lumbar spine apparatus is designed to confine a portion of your lower back in a relatively immobile position so that with a series of exercises, the lumbar muscle of the spine can be strengthened. Following the instructions that come with the apparatus is a must for properly strengthening your back and spine.

2
Strengthen while standing. Stand straight and bend forward at the waist, reaching down to your toes and hold for five to 10 seconds. Rise slowly and repeat the move to strengthen your lumbar muscles.

3
Increase the intensity. Besides bending at the waist and reaching for the toes, holding a weighted object in each hand helps strengthen the spine.
-
4
Move around. Step forward with one foot while in the standing position, and lean forward with a weight. Hold for five to 10 seconds before returning to an upright position and repeat.
-
5
Advance your strengthening exercises. If your back allows it, increase the amount of weights you use for each exercise to continue to strengthen your back and spine.
-
6
Know your limits. If your back pain is so severe that standing while exercising is not an option, modify the strengthening exercises so they can be performed in a sitting or lying position.
