Draw Realistic Eyes

Drawing realistic eyes isn't hard if you understand the different parts that go into a realistic eye. As long as everything is centered and drawn carefully, the picture should come along very nicely. The hard part is getting those eyes even.

Things You'll Need

  • Pencil eraser
  • Ink
  • Drawing paper

Instructions

  1. Drawing the Realistic Eye

    • 1

Draw a crossbar as shown. This will help keep everything centered.

    • 2

Take your circle tool or stencil and place it where the two lines meet. Draw your circle.

    • 3

Draw a smaller circle inside your larger circle. This will serve as your pupil.

    • 4

Draw small ovals and/or circles somewhere within your larger circles. These will serve as your light source.

    • 5

Color your pupil. Color the iris using lines all the way around. The center of the iris should be lighter, while the outside should be darker. Do not draw over your light source.

    • 6

Take your piece of paper with your lines, center your eye between the lines, and extend your lines onto your drawing paper as shown in the image. These lines indicate where your eyelids will be.

    • 7

Draw a curve into any shape you want, starting from the medium cauthus line (the smallest lines). This is your upper lid. Do the same at the bottom. This is your bottom lid.

    • 8

Draw a second line one-tenth of a centimeter above the bottom line. This shows the inside rim of your lid. Above the upper lid, draw a secondary line. This is your lid fold. Add your medium canthus and a light source for it.

    • 9

Add eyelashes, eyebrow and shading inside and around the eye. Soften outside shading with a tissue and eye shading with a tortillion.

Tips & Warnings

  • Using pictures of eyes always helps, especially if you are a beginner.

  • Use a sticky note with measurement marks, which will help you keep proportions and centering.
