Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Time set aside for the family to be together.
  1. Step 1

Take advantage of local free entertainment as much as possible. To do this properly, you will need to stay up to date on events going on in your neighborhood. Most townships have their own websites listing free or very low cost entertainment including concerts, block parties, storytimes, movies, etc.

  2. Step 2

Make up a list of activities your family enjoys doing together. This can include picnics, hikes, swimming, bike rides, mini-golf, bowling, roller skating, star-gazing -- the list goes on and on. What's important is to make up a list in advance. This way when the family has some time together you can find something on the list to do -- and resist the temptation to spend a lot of money on recreation because of poor planning.

  3. Step 3

Invest in a copy of the Entertainment Book. The savings from this can be substantial, since most coupons are buy one admission, get one free. It includes stores, activities, and restaurants all from your local area.

Tips & Warnings
  • Entertainment books can usually be purchased for half price during the summer.
  • Recognize the difference between being frugal and being cheap. Cheap is not cool.
