Easy Peach Salsa from Your Pantry

Need to throw together something quick for a girls weekend, covered dish dinner or backyard BBQ? Peach salsa is something everyone can enjoy - even if you aren't from the south!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Clean Spaghetti Sauce jar
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Mixing Spoon or spatula
  • Knife for slicing
  • 1 can diced tomatoes - preferably with peppers & onions
  • 1 large can sliced peaches, diced
  • 1 garlic clove, finely minced
  • 1 tsp. onion or garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. chili powder
  • 1 dash Tabasco or Texas Pete hot sauce
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 tsp. chopped cilantro
  1. Step 1

Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl.

  2. Step 2

Stir well to distribute onion & chili powder and cinnamon

  3. Step 3

Pour into clean canning jars or spaghetti jar.

  4. Step 4

Refrigerate for several hours to enhance flavor. This is not a necessary step but greatly improves the flavor if you have time.

  5. Step 5

Serve with tortilla chips and enjoy!

  6. Step 6

Store in refrigerator – lasts up to 2 weeks (unless it all gets eaten!).

Tips & Warnings
  • In place of peaches, substitute one fresh mango sliced into small bits
  • In place of peaches, substitute pineapple (in its own juice) and omit cinnamon.
  • If you don't have cinnamon, experiment with other canned peaches. Some already contain cinnamon and other spices.
  • Add 1/4 cup sliced onions for a more robust salsa
  • If you have trouble keeping fresh herbs on hand, pick up a tube of cilantro in oil (found in the produce section). It has strong flavor and lasts a long time in your 'fridge.
  • For a smokier flavor, substitute chipotle pepper powder for chili powder
  • Adjust onion measurements depending on intensity of onion. You want the sweetness of the peaches to come through and not be overshadowed by a strong onion.
