How to Extract, Render and Replace Audio Clips in Adobe Premiere Pro

You can extract audio segments from clips if you want to remix or create new audio clips for your project. Once you have created a new clip, you can replace one audio clip with the new one. When you extract audio from your Master clip, it will remain intact, and any further adjustments made will be applied to the new clips, not the Master clip.

Instructions

    • 1

Extract audio from a clip by selecting the clip within the Project panel. You can select multiple clips by holding down the CTRL key and selecting with your mouse.

    • 2

Go to your Clip Menu at the top of your workspace, and select Audio Options, and then Extract Audio. The program will create new files that contain the extracted audio. Each file will have the word “extracted” appended to the name of the clip

    • 3

Render and replace audio by selecting the clip in the sequence, and then go to your Clip Menu, then Audio Options, and then “Render and Replace.” This creates a new audio clip to replace the previously selected one.

    • 4

Save your work after completing the clip extractions and replacements.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have extracted audio from a clip that you previously trimmed, the new clip will contain only the trimmed portion, not the entire Master clip.
