Step 1
Go to Wisconsin Department of Revenue at http://www.dor.state.wi.us/ to file the Wisconsin taxes online for free. Half way down the page under "Electronic Tax Service," there is a selection for Wisconsin free file, click that link.

After clicking the Wisconsin free file link, the next page displayed is "Welcome to Free File." Read this page before continuing to the next step. Here you will find out what tax form to use if you are just filing a homestead form or a tax return. After reading this page click on "Start Filing."

The "Start Filing" button will take you to the first page of the return. Up in the corner, you will notice a timer, you have 30 minutes to complete this page. Here you select and enter your marital status, social security number, last name and first and middle names for you and your spouse. Then click the next button.

The next page will ask for your address, age, telephone number, municipality, county, school district and number of dependents excluding yourself and spouse. After enter this information click the next button.

The next page is where you select the proper tax form to fill out. Then you select the forms and information you have to enter such as 1099s, Schedule H information if any, rent certificate if any, W2s and any other schedules you might have to enter. If you enter the wrong forms, you will get a stop sign, which means you have to correct something.

Step 6
The final stage is entering all of the documents or forms that you have to enter. You will enter employer's names, EIC number, wages and any taxes withheld. This is done for each form you have. After you are done with each page, click the next button and will take you through until the end where the calculations are shown.

After everything is reviewed, click the submit button and your taxes are filed. If you choose to have direct deposit, they will ask for your bank routing number and the account number. Monies are usually deposited within 14 days or less.
