MLA (Modern Language Association) style is a common style for papers in the academic world. There are several things to keep in mind when writing a paper in this style.
The oage header should include your last name and the page number. Make sure that it is right-justified.
Step2
The entirety of an MLA paper should be double-spaced and in a 12-point font (normally Times New Roman).
Step3
All of the margins should be 1" wide. This may already be a set default of your word-processing program, but it is a good idea to check.
Step4
The first page should include the following: your first and last name, the professor's name, the name of the class and the due date. These four elements should be on separate lines and left-justified.
Step5
Next comes the title of the paper, which should be centered. Many people think they have to underline, italicize or bold the title, but this isn't the case. The information should be provided in the text style you use throughout the paper.
Step6
The contents of the paper should be left-justified.
Step7
Each paragraph should begin with a 1/2" indentation.
Step8
Your references should be on their own separate page. The best and most logical way to keep this page to itself is to create a page break before it.
Step9
The title of the references page should be "Works Cited," and the text should be centered.
Step10
Unlike a paragraph in the paper proper, each reference should start at the beginning of the margin. If it exceeds more than one line, the extra lines should all be indented 1/2". Repeat this for every reference you have.
Step11
The Works Cited page should be alphabetized.
Tips & Warnings
To keep the paper uniform, you should create a basic template in a Word document, or whichever word processing software you use.
