How to Mount Tom Toms on Cymbal Stand

There are a number of reasons that you might want to mount a drum on a cymbal stand. Maybe you want to fit more drums on your kit. Maybe it helps to position the drums based on how you play. Maybe you just think it looks cool. Whatever the reason, it's a fairly easy process.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Drumset
  • Cymbal stand
  • Rack mount
  1. Step 1

Get yourself a decent cymbal stand. A cymbal stand with spindly legs just isn't going to be able to support a drum. It's mandatory to get a cymbal stand with double legs and a thick stand to place the drum mount.

  2. Step 2

You also need a decent drum mount, that is, one that stays securely on the stand. You don't want the drum mount to slide down when you hit the drum, so it should have a durable clamping mechanism (seen in the picture).

  3. Step 3

If you're at all accustomed to mounting a tom on a standard bass drum mount, a cymbal stand mount is just in a different place. Loosen the nut and slide the tom into place.

  4. Step 4

Adjust the cymbal stand where you want the drum to be--both vertically on the cymbal stand and the angle of the drum. This should be pretty easy, depending on the number of toms you have. Hit the tom hard a couple times to make sure that it's sturdy.

Tips & Warnings
  • You also have to factor in the weight of the cymbal--especially if you're using a boom stand with a heavy cymbal like a ride. Mounting a drum on the same stand could affect where you put the cymbal because you don't want the whole thing to topple over. This will take some experimentation.
