    Making Jewelry

  1. Step 1

Work on felt bracelets. For each bracelet you’ll need a strip of cardboard 2 inches wide and long enough to fit around a girl’s wrist, masking tape, assorted colors of felt, a few pair of scissors and white glue. Have girls measure their cardboard strips, cut them to the correct length and tape the ends together. Make sure the bracelets slip off easily. Cut a piece of felt slightly wider, glue it onto bracelet, and then decorate with tiny felt shapes.

  2. Step 2

Make string wooden bead bracelets. You’ll need elastic cord and colored beads ½ inch in diameter. String the beads onto the cord and tie so that the elastic doesn’t show.

  3. Step 3

Create new jewelry from old. Before the party, collect as many old bead and “pearl” necklaces as you can. Try thrift stores and garage sales. (You might even ask the other girls’ mothers.) Unstring the necklaces, place all the beads in a box. Provide new clasps and chains from a craft store. Let girls come up with their own unique designs.

  4. Step 4

Make pins from game pieces. When you buy the necklace findings, buy some pin backs as well. Gather together small game items like dominoes, dice or tokens. Have girls glue these onto pin backs with white glue, adding decorative touches like sequins onto the dots of the dominoes.

  5. Refreshments

  6. Step 1

Set a frosted cupcake with a ring pop on top at each place.

  7. Step 2

Bring out dishes of ice cream and let girls top these with their choice of “jewels” such as cut up gum drops, candy sprinkles or M&Ms.

  8. Step 3

Wrap a candy necklace around individual juice boxes.

  9. Step 4

For an extra treat, send each girl home with a fluorescent necklace to be opened at night.
