How to Convert AVI Videos to DVD Using WinAvi

Converting AVI video to DVD files for burning DVD discs can be done with countless computer software programs with varying degrees of success, speed, quality and features. Things You'll Need

• DVD burner
• Blank DVD media disc
• 5 to 9 gigabytes of free space on hard drive
• WinAVI Video Converter (Version 8, if possible)
• Proper Codecs (if necessary)

Conversion Instructions

1. Download and install the latest version of WinAVI Video Converter.

2. Register WinAVI to remove the watermark ad from the center of the video output.

3. Free up five to nine gigabytes of free space on your computer's hard drive.

4. 

   Open WinAVI.

5. 

   Click on DVD on the bottom right of the screen and a file directory window will come up.

6. 

   Locate the AVI video, which you want to convert to DVD, in the file directory. More than one video may be added on the next window.

7. 

   Choose the Output Directory for the DVD files that will later be burned to disc.

8. 

   Choose "DVD" from the Output Format menu.

9. 

   Click the "Advanced" button.

10. 

    Choose the "Output Setting" on the menu. "Constant output quality" will create the highest quality video.

11. 

    Choose "Higher quality" or "Highest quality" for the highest quality video.

12. 

    Choose the "Split Setting", which is the capacity of the DVD media.

13. 

    Go down to "DVD Authoring Setting," if you want to add DVD chapter points and a menu.

14. 

    Go to "Video Setting" and choose "Encode Mode," "Aspect Ratio," and "Target Format." The defaults will suffice, unless the DVD is to be in the PAL format.

    Go down to "Audio Setting" and choose "Audio Bitrate" (224000 is DVD quality), "Encode Mode" (AC3 is DVD quality), and check "Enabled DirectAC3."

    Click "OK."

    Click "OK" on the next window to begin the conversion mode, which will convert the AVI to VOB files for DVD burning.

Burning Instructions

1. 

   Return to the main window.

2. 

   Click the "Burn your VCD/SVCD/DVD now!" icon button on the bottom, left of the window.

3. 

   Click "Add File(s)," then "DVD movie" on the menu, and locate the video clip(s) that are to be burned to disc.

4. 

   Go to "Device parameter" section and choose DVD writer under "Device," burn speed for DVD media uder "Speed," and choose a "Disc Volume Label." "Test Write" will virtually burn your DVD disc.

5. Prepare DVD writer and insert blank DVD media disc.

6. 

   Click "Burn" when all options are done.

Tips & Warnings

• The whole process takes under an hour depending on your computer speed and video size.

• You will need 5 gigabytes of free space for standard DVDs or 9 gigabytes for double density or sided.

• Proper Codecs might be necessary.
