Things You'll Need:
- computer
- Internet
- webcam
- telephone
-
Step 1
Trust each other. The most important thing for a long distance relationship to work is trust. You must trust your partner and they must trust you. Relationships where the couple reside in the same zip code don't work when there is no trust. So you can see how a long distance relationship will crash and burn quickly without trust.
-
Step 2
Have date nights. Since you aren't in the same area, it can be difficult to cultivate your relationship. But, that doesn't mean you can't have date nights. Just sign into a chat with your loved one, turn on your webcam, and start chatting away. There are many online games you can play together to have something fun to do. This is a fun way to stay in touch and it will allow you to have fun and keep your relationship alive.
-
Step 3
Call each other. In order for your long distance relationship to work you need to call each other regularly. Call to check in or just to see how the other is doing. Call to let them know you arrived home after a night out with friends. You want to keep the relationship transparent and calling makes that easier to do.
-
Step 4
Visit as often as possible. Dealing with a long distance relationship is much easier if you get to see each other on a regular basis. This means visiting each other as much as possible. Take turns visiting each other every weekend if you are only a few hours away. If you are separated by an ocean or more then visiting each other won't be as easy. However, you must find a way to make it happen. Not visiting each other will eventually kill the relationship.
-
Step 5
Make plans for one of you to move. If you are truly in love and want to be together, then one of you will need to move to where the other lives. This is an important step because you can only date someone for so long when they are far away. Relationships have the best chance of working when both people are in the same zip code so figure out a way for one of you to move!
