Instructions

  1. Keep Your Eye on the Ball

    • 1

Keep your eye on the ball! One thing that all successful snooker players have in common is a steady hand and an intense concentration. Once you decide on your shot, practice keeping a still hand and concentrating on making that shot happen.

    • 2

Think ahead, not just in the moment. Take the time to pause and to think through the next few steps. It'll help you down the road.

    • 3

Get a cue! If you're playing at a public table or at a friend's house, chances are you're going to be using a variety of cues. They all play differently. If you'd like to seriously improve your play, purchase your own. When you begin to use one cue on a regular basis, you'll find yourself getting a lot more comfortable with it. Make sure your cue is in good condition and replace the tip as needed.

    • 4

Take some time to practice hitting the cue ball in just the right area to get the spin that you want. Top spin, back spin, stun. The mastery of these can make the difference in a game.

    • 5

Focus on every aspect of your form, from your stance to your sight to the moment the cue tip hits the ball. Bad habits are easily learned and ingrained but if you take the time to make sure you have your feet and your weight properly positioned, you'll have a solid start to build from.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you can't spend as much time at the snooker table as you might like or if you don't have one at home, try an on-line snooker game. While it might not help you get the feel of standing at a table, a good one might get you accustomed to thinking in terms of the angles that you're going to need to be familiar with.
