If you have a baby eating solid foods, those cute little jars may start piling up. Don't throw them away and don't bother sending them off to the recycling center either. You can turn glass baby food jars into pretty candle and potpourri holders. These pretty candle and potpourri holders make great gifts especially when added to other items in a gift basket. They make great home accent pieces that smell wonderful, too!

  • Acrylic or Glass Paints

  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Newspaper
  • Metal Punch or Ice Pick (Optional)

Transform Glass Baby Food Jars into Candle and Potpourri Holders

  1. Step 1

Gather all baby food jars together. Make sure the labels have been removed from the jars.

  2. Step 2

Wash all your baby food jars and lids. Let them dry and air out.

  3. Step 3

Gather all of the craft supplies you will need.

  4. Step 4

Lay your newspaper out on your work surface. Place all your craft supplies and jars on top of the newspaper.

  5. Step 5

Paint your jars in your choice of colors. You can use brushes or sponges for different efffects. Sponges easily cover the whole jar quickly while brushes are good for painting small areas and details.

  6. Step 6

Take your lids to a well ventilated area to spray paint them. Lay them on top of newspaper and spray them just enough for the lids to be completely covered. Let them dry.

  7. Step 7

Cut and measure the ribbons you would like to place around the tops of the jars. Once everything is dry you can put your candles or potpourri in the jars. Tealight candles fit in the small "First Stage" food jars, while taller votives fit in the "Second Stage" jars perfectly. Potpourri looks the best in the larger jars. If you want, you can punch holes in the lids with a pick or metal punch so the scents of the candles and potpourri can come out of the jars without removing the lids.

Tips & Warnings
  • Decorate for the seasons, you can make a whole bunch in many color schemes that you can swap out throughout the year in your own home.
  • Be careful when using the ice pick or metal punch, you don't want to hurt yourself. It can be a little tricky sometimes to punch through the lids. Put the lid on a solid surface that won't be damaged by the pick or punch if it goes too far and push it through. You might need to tap it with a hammer.
  • To keep from messing up a finished lid, you might want to put the holes in before painting them.
