The Gibson martini awaits...
The Gibson martini awaits...

This classic variation of the Martini spices up the old favorite by substituting a pearl onion for the ubiquitous olive. Here's how to make a dry Gibson that'll have your guests bellying up to the bar for another.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Gin or vodka
  • Dry vermouth
  • Pearl onions
  • Cocktail shaker
  • Cracked ice
  • Martini glass

How to Make the Perfect Gibson

  1. Step 1

Chill your martini glass in the freezer--a properly chilled glass adds to the allure of the cocktail.

  2. Step 2

In a cocktail shaker, combine 2 oz. of gin or vodka with a drop or two of dry vermouth. The drier you like the drink, the less vermouth. Add cracked ice, close the shaker and shake vigorously for about a minute.

  3. Step 3

Strain the drink into your martini glass, then add one or two pearl onions. Serve and enjoy!

Tips & Warnings
  • Gin or Vodka? Depends on your taste, but don't skimp on the brand- a quality beverage makes for a more palatable drink.
  • If you have trouble finding pearl onions, check in the "mixers" section of your store. Pearl onions come in jars, much like olives.
  • Please enjoy in moderation, and don't drink and drive!
