Ice fishing pike is one of the oldest sports to do during the winter months. The pike are a sought after fish that is relatively easy to catch any time of the year. For the first time angler, these steps will work for catching the pike. As one becomes accustom to ice fishing, more equipment or techniques can be used. This is the simplest way to fish for pike during the winter.
Find a spot on the ice and drill two six-inch holes. This done after setting up the ice house if using one. Do not drill a hole any bigger than ten-inches. Use a hand auger, which works more efficiently. Use the ice skimmer to remove the slush and ice shavings.

Use the jigging rod, which is two feet long. The ultra light model works the best for pike fishing. The test line should be at least a four-pound test line.
3
Set your rod with a jig and a wax worm. Drop the bait down to the bottom of the lake. Then raise the bait up to six inches from the bottom. Jig the rod slightly. This will attract a bite.

If a fish is not caught after fifteen minutes, it will be time to move to a knew location. This is where the fish locater comes into play. Use the locater to find the schools of fish under the ice. This will save time drilling unnecessary holes in the ice.

Try different types of jigs if the pike are not biting. The jigging spoons and swimming lures do have a tendency to attract the pike easier in murky waters. Again, the jigging action should be slight, almost as slight as the shaking of the hand.
