How to Add PPC Ads to Your Website

Step1
First you need to locate a company that provides this service. Google is the biggest and probably the best, but there may be others that suit your needs just as readily. To sign up for Google's PPC service (called Adsense) simply browse to the <A href="http://www.google.com/">Google homepage</a> and click the "Advertising Programs" link under the search bar on the main page. (NOTE: This ink appears after you click "More" in the top navigation bar when you are using a Mozilla browser. You can sign up for any PPC service you want. Yahoo, MSN and a host of other, smaller companies offer them, too.
Step2
Sign up for the PPC add program. You will be asked to provide your name, address, payment information and website URL. Each service is different, and they feature differing ways to sign up for the PPC ad programs.
Step3
Each PPC company has a different platform and program. With Google, you simply cut and paste a piece of code into the HTML of your website page, and the ads appear on your site. This code is very simple: It pulls the ads from Google's servers and displays them on your site.
Step4
Paste the code into every page on which you want these ads to appear. You will need to understand a bit of HTML, so you can paste the code for the PPC ads in the right spot. Many people paste the code for the ads right into the middle of the page, so that they appear where visitors can easily see them and click on them.
Step5
Keep track of your PPC ad hits. Each time someone clicks on a PPC ad, you will be paid a price that is determined by how much someone is willing to pay for that click. This is like an auction, so certain keywords will work better. That is why it helps to have some understanding of SEO.

Tips & Warnings

  • Paste the PPC ads in the center of the page for more conversions. Visitors are more likely to click on something in the center of a page.
  • Google and other PPC ad providers offer both text and image PPC ads. Decide which type of ad fits your site's personality.
  • Experiment with different placements of the PPC ads on your website, and track which ads perform the best for maximum profit.
  • Google uses its search ability to determine which ads should appear on your site, so changing your content will cause new ads to appear.
  • Though PPC text links are relatively unobtrusive for most websites, many visitors do shy away from sites with too much advertising. PPC ads are a great way to increase your site's profitability, but they could detract from your content and user experience.
  • For you to earn money from a PPC ad, users must click away from your site and visit another one. Since Google places ads that are relative to your site content, the ads that appear on your site could very well be your competitors'. Be sure you aren't opening the door for people to use competitors' websites, and therefore losing valuable sales or loyal visitors by placing the PPC ad on your site!
  • Some PPC ads promote items you may not want to promote. To avoid this, be sure and track which ads are appearing on your site and adjust your account if possible to not show these ads.
