In this article we will learn how to use fade shortcuts in Pro Tools. Fades can be used to either fade your audio in or out. Using fades is an essential element to editing in Pro Tools.

Things You'll Need:

  • Pro Tools hardware
  • Pro Tools software
  • Computer
  1. Step 1

    Locate the track that you would like to fade in your Pro Tools session.

  2. Step 2

    Select the portion of your audio that you want to fade. Choose the selection tool from the tools menu and drag across the portion of audio that requires a fade.

  3. Step 3

    Press Apple-F. This shortcut automatically creates a fade on your selected audio. An alternate way to create a fade is by using the smart tool.

  4. Step 4

    Choose the smart tool from the tools menu. Drag the upper corner of the audio you want to fade. The further you drag, the longer your fade will be. It's that simple. Whether you choose to use the Apple-F shortcut or the smart tool you will always be able to create the perfect fade quickly and easily!

Tips & Warnings
  • Both of these techniques are great to use for fading out a song. Many songs you hear on the radio fade out during the end. Try using these shortcuts to make one of your songs fade out.
