How to Make Salad Last Longer

  1. Step 1

Soak and wash your vegetables. Dry your leafy greens in a salad spinner to get rid of excess water. Water speeds up the deterioration process so you should dry the vegetables well before storing.

  2. Step 2

Chop up the dry vegetables and add them to the salad. For moist vegetables and fruits like tomatoes and oranges, package them separately, and do not add them until you are ready to eat the salad or bring it with you. Also reserve any salad dressing in a separate container.

  3. Step 3

Seal the dry salad in an airtight plastic container or bag, squeezing out any excess air before sealing.

  4. Step 4

Add tomatoes and dressing to the salad right before you eat it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always keep dressings, tomatoes, and any moist/wet foods in separate containers and out of the salad till you’re ready to enjoy it. When you buy vegetables, wipe them with a paper towel, then store them inside paper towels inside a plastic bag or paper bag inside the refrigerator to absorb any excess moisture and keep the vegetables fresher for longer.
  • Only put lettuce and leafy greens in the salad spinner. It’s not made for heavier vegetables.
