Step 1
Queen Angelfish get their name from the speckled, blue-ringed black spot on their head that looks like a crown. Their body is blue to blue-green with yellow rims on its scales.

The pectoral and ventral fins are also yellow but their lips and edges of their dorsal fins are a dark blue. They have rounded heads and small beak-like mouths. They also have light purple and orange highlights.They can grow up to 18 inches and weigh up to 3 1/2 lbs. Their average lifespan in the wild is 15 years.

Queen Angelfish are among the most colorful of all reef fishes. These colors help them blend well when hiding among the exotic reef colors.

Queen Angelfish are fairly shy fish found alone or in pairs. They are found in reefs of the warmer waters of the Caribbean and western Atlantic.

Their diet consists of sponges and algae but they also nibble on corals, sea fans and even jellyfish.

Queen Angels are related to the equally beautiful Blue Angelfish. These two have been known to mate forming a natural hybrid, which is rare among angelfish.
