If you’re one of those chronically klutzy people, who could be stranded in a desert yet still manage to drop your cell phone or keyboard into a body of water, here’s a tip for you.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A towel and some patience.

    Remove the battery, pronto

  1. Step 1

If your cell phone or keyboard gets wet (coffee is spilled on it or the cell gets dropped into the toilet—stranger things have happened), immediately remove the battery.

  2. Step 2

Use water to rinse off the cell or keyboard. Distilled water is preferable but tap water will do.

  3. Step 3

Place the cell, or keyboard, upside down on a towel and let it dry thoroughly for 24 hours. Absolutely do not try to use the cell or keyboard before 24 hours elapses. Do not reinsert the cell's battery until 24 hours has passed.

Tips & Warnings
  • According to a habitual klutz, who has managed to drench her cell phone and keyboard too many times to count, this rescue procedure actually works. Put your battery back into the dry cell phone, or hook up your dry keyboard, and you should be good to go.
