How to Unlock Metal Sonic in Sonic R

Learn to unlock the most popular villian in the Sonic series during the first stage of the game. With Metal Sonic, you can defeat Sonic R more quickly than you ever thought possible. Take your Sonic gameplay to the next level.

Things You'll Need

• Sonic R for Sega Saturn OR
• Sonic R for PC OR
• Sonic Gems Collection for Gamecube OR
• Sonic Gems Collection for PS2

Instructions

1. Turn on gaming console and load the game.

2. Make the game a little bit easier by selecting a fast character. Sonic is one of the fastest on the game, and therefore it is a good bet.

3. Select the first level, Resort Island. Choose Snowy for the weather, as this will freeze the water and allow you to walk over it.

4. Go through the course locating all of the 5 Sonic tokens. There is no need to try to finish first at this point. You only have to come in 1st, 2nd or 3rd place to unlock Metal Sonic.

5. Complete the race with all 5 Sonic tokens, and Metal Sonic will show up and challenge you to a race.

6. Defeat Metal Sonic in the race (this is where the selection of a fast character helps) and he will be unlocked at the character menu.

Tips & Warnings

• This strategy can be used to unlock other characters in Radical City and Regal Ruins.
