With obvious emphasis on expensive gas prices this article will address alternative means of fuel; various substitute modes of transportation; and elimination of travel miles.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Step1
I will begin with a most interesting, economical, environmentally friendly and somewhat inexpensive alternative to gasoline. Diesel conversion kits can be found online at http://www.greasecar.com. These systems allow for diesel engines to run on vegetable oil. The fuel burns cooler and the cost is nominal.
Step2
A more traditional means of transportation for those staying within vicinity of their home is bicycling. Bicycling is an ideal activity if weather cooperates. Additionally, the cardiovascular and physical benefits are numerous.
Step3
Some communities offer railway and almost all have well-established bus routes. Both offer monthly rates for even greater savings.
Step4
For small treks around the neighborhood, walking will boost your mood and allow you to meet neighbors that you may otherwise not have the opportunity to converse with.
Step5
Mapping out and then planning your errands in sequence of local may take time to master but will prove to save not only fuel but also time.
Step6
Carpooling saves gas in multiple ways. First you can share the fuel costs and second, you sit for less time in traffic when car pool lanes are available thereby saving in wasted fuel.
Step7
Telecommuting has benefits also. Even if you can't telecommute on a daily basis, your employer may allow you work from home one or two days a week. Again you save gas and time.
Step8
I welcome any additional ideas that you may have. Simply submit them using the comment form below.
