Many contestants forget they are in competition when they enter the pageant interview room and save their energies for the on-stage show. Little do they realize that from the moment you enter the interview room the judges start to pick their favorites.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Enter the room as if you where entering the pageant stage. Keep your posture, stomach in, shoulders back, head up and smile. Be enthusiastic and confident, you should be excited that the judges are going to have a chance to meet you, instead of dreading the questions the judges will ask.

  2. Step 2

If you are interviewed in rotation style, which means you will be interviewed by one judge at a time, you will be mentioned beforehand the number of the judge that will interview you first. Look for that number from the moment you walk into to the room. Pay attention. There is nothing worse than two contestants heading in the same direction towards the same judge.

  3. Step 3

If you have to introduce yourself to each judge, keep your introduction simple. “Hello, my name is _____, Miss _________.” Each judge will look for your information sheet and will have the rest of your information in front of them. Let them begin the interview process.

  4. Step 4

Don’t extend your hand to shake hands with the judges. Not everyone likes to shake hands with other people. It is best to wait for the judge to extend their hand first. If you do shake hands, make sure it is a firm grip from your part, not a bone crushing grim or flimsy one.

  5. Step 5

When you take your seat, remember to keep your posture, stomach in, shoulders back, head up and smile. Your behind should support your spine. When you get up from your seat, notice the flow of the contestants from table to table. Whether it’s clockwise or counter-clockwise, enter and exit your chair in the same direction.

  6. Step 6

Leave the room as though you were leaving the stage and in the same manner you came in. Keep your posture, stomach in, shoulders back, head up and smile.
