How to Use Essential Oils for Skin Cleansers

If you read the labels of your favorite skin cleansers, you are sure to find at least one essential oil in the list of ingredients, as there are multiple herbs with a variety of beneficial properties for skin care. While natural toners tend to be a bit pricey, they are made from very few, inexpensive ingredients, so stop spending your money and start making your own. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Distilled water
  • Dark glass bottle
  • Your choice of essential oil(s)

      Make a toner which will be used for your essential oil skin cleansers. If you have oily or combination skin, mix equal parts of apple cider vinegar and distilled water. For dry skin, used distilled water only. Because a little goes a long way, begin with just 2 Tbsp. of toner, storing the liquid in a dark glass bottle in a cool location.

      Cleanse normal skin by adding 3 drops of lemon, lemongrass, peppermint or sweet basil to your toner solution.

      Help treat acne by adding 3 drops of grapefruit, rosewood or tea tree oil to your toner. If you have blackheads, use peppermint.

      Create skin cleansers for combination skin by adding 3 drops of ylang-ylang, rosewood or geranium.

      Cut the shine on oily skin by making your skin cleansers with 3 drops of cedarwood, lavender, patchouli, juniper, lemon or frankincense.

      Reduce pores while cleansing your skin by adding 3 drops of rose, myrtle, cedarwood or lemongrass.

      Apply your skin cleansing toner with a cotton ball after your morning shower and before bed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Because some essential oils increase skin sensitivity to the sun, it is important that you use an oil-free sunscreen with minimum 30 SPF after using your skin cleansers.

  • Some essential oils are not recommended for certain medical conditions. Always speak to a professional at the store where you purchase your oils for safety information.
