How to Score in Rugby

Rugby is a sport that is very popular in countries such as France, Ireland, Australia and England, where there are professional leagues. Rugby is a growing sport in the United States as its play is very similar to American football. Shown below are different ways in which a player can score in rugby.

Instructions

    • 1

Take the ball and run it into the end zone and you have just made a try. In completing a try, the player must apply downward pressure and push the ball into the ground with your arms and upper body. A try is similar to a touchdown in American football and is worth five points.

    • 2

Follow the try with a goal kick. Similar to a field goal after a touchdown in football, the player needs to kick the ball through two upright posts. This goal kick is worth two points.

    • 3

Get a penalty kick awarded to you and you have the option of another goal kick. A player can kick the ball through the posts from the place the penalty occurred. You can drop the ball and kick it or you can place the ball on a stationary tee and kick it. This type of goal kick is worth three points.

    • 4

Execute a goal kick during the course of play. This way of scoring is a drop kick. If a player is open, from any point on the field, he may kick the ball through the posts. The ball, if dropped, must first hit the ground before the player kicks it through the uprights. This type of goal kick is also worth three points.
