1
Design star-shaped invitations with silver, dark and light blue cardstock. Add information like the time, location and date with alphabet stamps and metallic ink or by writing it with glitter gel pens. You can also save time by buying pre-made invitations with an American Idol theme.
-
2
Instruct your guests to dress like rock stars or even evoke their favorite American Idol contestants. They can wear a "205" jersey like second-season winner Ruben Studdard (which is the area code of his hometown, Birmingham, Alabama), a long blonde wig to look like Carrie Underwood or even a crazy fauxhawk like notorious season six competitor Sanjaya Malakar, for example

3
Decorate the room with blue streamers, silver stars and glitzy Hollywood-style touches like spotlights and a red carpet that guests can walk on as they enter the room. Include a "judges' table" where they'll preside during the karaoke contest.
-
4
Offer snacks like finger sandwiches cut with a star cookie cutter, popcorn, blue raspberry gelatin stars and sparkling cider served in plastic champagne flutes. You can also create a star-shaped cake to fit the theme.
-
5
Play games like "name that tune" or ask trivia about the American Idol seasons, contestants, winners and judges.
-
6
Buy an American Idol-themed karaoke machine and let guests sing in front a panel of judges. Have your family members do their best Simon, Randy and Paula impersonations when offering funny and friendly critiques. Let shy guests perform as part of a group or even lip sync to favorite songs.
-
7
Hand out awards in categories like "most talented vocalist," "nicest dance moves" or "best impersonation," for example. Give every participant an American Idol party favor bag or a glitter-covered picture frame to hold an image from the party and a tape of their performance (see Resources below).
