1
Purchase an anti-static, plastic "molded" keyboard cover that works with your model of keyboard. Keep in mind that ergonomic or split keyboard covers may be more difficult to come by.
-
2
Call your computer manufacturer if all else fails, or visit your computer manufacturer's online store to purchase a cover that fits over your keyboard. Typically keyboard covers appear under "Accessories." Keep in mind that a keyboard cover purchased directly from the manufacturer may cost more than one purchased through a retail computer accessory store or online marketplace.

3
Remove the keyboard cover from its packaging, and check for any tears or holes as these can let in dust or moisture.
-
4
Install the keyboard cover. Some covers have straps so that the cover can not shift or move once it is in place. If your plastic keyboard cover has straps, follow the manufacturer's installation instructions.
-
5
Type as you normally would, as "molded" keyboard covers are crafted to conform to your keyboard's key structure to feel like the surface of your keyboard.
-
6
Remove your plastic keyboard cover at regular intervals (approximately once a month or more) and wipe down with a warm, soapy cloth, and repeat with a fresh wet cloth to remove any dust, dirt and oil. Thoroughly dry the cover with a microfiber towel before re-installing over your keyboard.
