How to Create a Zoom Blur in Photoshop

Take a regular stagnant image and add a little pizzaz with Adobe Photoshop's Zoom Blur feature. Make a car look like it is in motion or make a person look like he's running at warp speed. Whether it's for an ad or your personal enjoyment, Photoshop helps your creativity come to life with a few clicks.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Open the image you want to manipulate in Photoshop. Enlarge the photo and select the Lasso Tool from the tool box on the left side of your screen.

  2. Step 2

    Draw a lasso carefully around the image you want to blur. When you have completely circled the image, click "Control-C" (copy) then Control-V" (paste).

  3. Step 3

    Look at the bottom right of your screen and you'll find your first image then the image you just copied shown as a new layer. Select your new layer.

  4. Step 4

    Click "Image" from the menu at the top then select "Adjust" then "Invert." Cut and paste this image by pressing "Control-C" then "Control-V."

  5. Step 5

    Use the move tool to get your main image lined up where you want it over the inverted image. Go back to the bottom right part of your screen and look at your layers.

  6. Step 6

    Choose layer one or layer two. Move your mouse to the top menu and click on the "Filter" option. Choose "Blur" then "Motion Blur." Use the scroll bar to decide how blurred you want your image.

  7. Step 7

    Repeat Step 6 with any of the layers until you achieve an image showing the action you were looking for.
