Finding a nice place to shop where you can go home with more than just moo-moos is easy on Long Island, NY. With some strategic shopping and $360 to $500 you can buy a whole season’s worth of clothing that you can mix and match to make multiple outfits.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

Things You’ll Need:

  • Money
  • A Car
  • Time to shop like 6-8 hours worth as the stores are all over Long Island, NY
  • Fashion Sense or a sense of what you like that looks good on you
Step1
Go to a Walmart near you at the top of every season and purchase at least four pairs of pants. They have pants that are around $16.88 apiece and come in four basic colors: white, black, navy blue, and khaki. Then you want to purchase any additional colors that they may have such as red, darker brown, and loden green. Make sure that you try the pants on. However, once you try on one pair you don’t have to try the rest on as long as everything is the same size and design as their clothes are true to size for that size you know.
Step2
After you have tried on your pants there are some affordable underpinnings there that you may want to look at. Definitely head on over to the handbag section and look around. You are looking for the most expensive Walmart purse there usually around $20.00 and purchase that to go with your pants. Now you have a few basic unmentionables and a nice designer look handbag and multiple pairs of pants that will be the basis of your wardrobe.
Step3
Now you are going to drive from Walmart to National Wholesale Liquidators in West Hempstead, NY. National Wholesale Liquidators has all the Avenue, Lane Bryant, Liz Claiborne, and many other designer name brands that you can think of. I have even seen stuff that was in Kohl’s just last season or two seasons ago wind up at this store. This store also has great related separates and business casual suits. They also have really expensive looking or unusual looking almost couture looking shirts for plus-sized women.
Step4
National Wholesale Liquidators has designer stuff and lower end and more casual and affordable shirts and pants. If you like DKNY, Diane Von Furstenburg, Fubu and many other brand names I suggest you come on down and take a look. Their clearance rack is to die for!
Step5
As a matter of fact, if you are already familiar with selling clothing on eBay, you may just want to check out what the clearance rack has to offer.
Step6
What I like about NWL is that you could walk up in there with $300.00 and come out with a complete wardrobe with at least 8 pants and 10-15 shirts depending upon what you chose and they would all be interchangeable to even further your wardrobe options. The clothing is up on the second floor so you take the elevator up there and have a look around. Believe me, you’ll be glad you did.
Step7
The third place to shop is Dots. Dots is where you go for really colorful trendy items that are low end knock off versions of designer duds you see on TV. There are some low cut satin shirts that you can layer with a formfitting brightly colored camisole or leotard type of shirt underneath or something like that and it will look very trendy. If you like bright colors with lots of fly accessories go to Dots.
Step8
So Walmart pants provide the basis of your wardrobe and give you lots of mix and match options with designer shirts that you can purchase from National Wholesale Liquidators in Hempstead which you will add a few more trendy items to the mix by adding a few shirts from Dots and you will have a well balanced wardrobe that has a classy, practical and yet couture and trendy look to it. The girls on Desperate Housewives would be so proud.
