First, separate laundry as usual. Most jeans, unless they are an extremely light wash, will be included with dark laundry.
-
2
Next, separate laundry into piles so that each pile has five pairs of jeans or less. You may add other items to the load with jeans, as long as they are light. If you add other items such as towels, sweatshirts or sweaters, you may prevent the load from moving properly and thus getting clean.

3
Fill washer with warm water and detergent before adding clothes.
-
4
Add clothes, making sure there is room at the top for movement. With heavy items, do not overload the washer, as it will prevent cleaning and may also damage your washing machine.
-
5
When the washing cycle is complete, remove denim and dry on a laundry rack or line. If you find this leaves them too stiff or takes too long for your taste, you can machine dry your jeans on low heat.
-
6
Fold denim after drying, smoothing the fabric as you fold. This will keep them from wrinkling in the drawer.

Tips & Warnings
Jeans, as with any clothes, can be washed inside out to protect the color.
If you feel your jeans shrink a bit in the wash, this should be your solution. Because of the low overall heat, they should maintain their size.
Since jeans are meant to be a little stiff to hold their shape, fabric softener isn't best for denim. If you decide to use it, use just a very small amount.
