Step 1
Select a fine charcoal made from wood. Wood charcoals are the most traditional form of hookah charcoal. There are several varieties of wood-charcoal and some use fragrant wood to make the charcoal.
-
Step 2
Select a Japanese style silver tab hookah charcoal. Silver tab charcoals burn longer and are smokeless and odorless. An advantage of the silver tab charcoals is that they are easy to light.

Step 3
Buy self-lighting coals for a trouble free charcoal. Several varieties of self-lighting charcoals are on the market, but the charcoals made in the Middle East from Syria, Jordon and Saudi Arabia are the highest quality.

Step 4
Buy hookah charcoal from Belgium for a precisely made charcoal that guarantees an even heat throughout the entire burning process. Belgium charcoal is made under stringent guidelines and is well worth the added expense.

Step 5
Order the cheapest hookah charcoals from suppliers in China and Thailand. These natural wood charcoals are made from oak and other less exotic woods. The lower grade Thai and Chinese charcoals are inexpensive, but the quality is more than adequate to ignite easily and burn well.
