How to Pick Hookah Charcoal

The charcoal is the key to a smooth hookah smoking experience. The charcoal has to provide an even heat to the tobacco in the hookah. The tobacco smoke from the hookah is mellowed by the clean, even burning of the charcoal. Good charcoal is as essential as good tobacco.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a fine charcoal made from wood. Wood charcoals are the most traditional form of hookah charcoal. There are several varieties of wood-charcoal and some use fragrant wood to make the charcoal.

    • 2

Select a Japanese style silver tab hookah charcoal. Silver tab charcoals burn longer and are smokeless and odorless. An advantage of the silver tab charcoals is that they are easy to light.

    • 3

Buy self-lighting coals for a trouble free charcoal. Several varieties of self-lighting charcoals are on the market, but the charcoals made in the Middle East from Syria, Jordon and Saudi Arabia are the highest quality.

    • 4

Buy hookah charcoal from Belgium for a precisely made charcoal that guarantees an even heat throughout the entire burning process. Belgium charcoal is made under stringent guidelines and is well worth the added expense.

    • 5

Order the cheapest hookah charcoals from suppliers in China and Thailand. These natural wood charcoals are made from oak and other less exotic woods. The lower grade Thai and Chinese charcoals are inexpensive, but the quality is more than adequate to ignite easily and burn well.

I save my bits of charcoal when I'm finished with them (either just done smoking or they aren't producing enough smoke), the way I do it is with a glass and a tight fitting lid (any non-flammable container with a lid will work) and drop it in and close it up, the lack of oxygen quickly puts it out without using it up. P.S. Don't forget to put the lid on it, I forgot one time and had the glass explode when it got too hot.

If I wanted to save the charcoal for later instead of using the full thing is this possible? If so how do I put it out without ruining it.
