Fireworks are a fun outdoor activity for holidays or just to alleviate boredom on any normal day. Fireworks are typically made in factories by professional manufacturers, but you can make small fireworks safely and inexpensively in the privacy of your own home for an added level of enjoyment.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 50 to 100 sparklers
  • 2-liter plastic soda bottle

    Cork Fireworks

  1. Step 1

Put a cork into a bowl containing a small amount of water, cooking oil and brown sugar. Let the cork sit in the mixture for 10 minutes.

  2. Step 2

Wrap the cork in a enough tissue to soak up the moisture and remain dry on the outermost layer of tissue.

  3. Step 3

Squeeze several drops of lemon juice onto the tissue.

  4. Step 4

Dry the cork in the sun for several minutes.

  5. Step 5

Spray the cork with a small amount of deodorant or hairspray. Place the deodorant or hairspray a safe distance away, and light the firework.

  6. Sparkler Fountain

  7. Step 1

Shave the powder off of your sparklers, and place it into a 2-liter plastic soda bottle. Leave the powder on one sparkler.

  8. Step 2

Put enough water into the soda bottle to make the powder moist.

  9. Step 3

Let the mixture dry for several days until it forms a sort a cake-like substance.

  10. Step 4

Cut the soda bottle down so that the top of it's only about an inch above the top of the dried powder cake.

  11. Step 5

Place the sparkler that you saved into the powder to act as a wick.

  12. Step 6

Light the sparkler in an open area, and step far back. This fountain will be very large and needs a lot of room to burn.
