How to Find StarForce on a Computer

Many PC gamers have claimed that StarForce copy protection software causes problems with their computers. StarForce is an anti-pirating system often packaged with games, installing automatically with them. Upon deletion of the games, StarForce drivers remain but are hard to find. Gamers blame it for computer crashes or wrecking CD/DVD drives. Whether experiencing problems or not, you might want to check if StarForce is hidden in your hard drive.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

1. Bring up the "System Properties" window by clicking "Start," right-clicking "My Computer" and selecting "Properties" from the dropdown menu.
2. Click on the "Hardware" tab in the "System Properties" window. Select the "Device Manager" button to open the Device Manager, which allows you to search for installed hardware devices.
3. Change your settings in the Device Manager window by clicking "View" and selecting "Show Hidden Devices." This option is turned on when there's a check mark next to its heading. You can verify this by clicking "View" again.
4. Scroll down to find "Non-Plug and Play Drivers." Its icon should appear as a gray diamond. Click the plus symbol to the left of it. This shows you a list of drivers. If StarForce is on your computer, it's listed here as three drivers: StarForce Protection Environment Driver, StarForce Protection Helper Driver and StarForce Protection Synchronization Driver.
