Block Spam on Your T-Mobile Phone

Whether you use it or not, your cell phone has its own e-mail address. And e-mail means spam. Even if you have a plan that allows for a set number of text messages, you are still paying for each spam email or text message that you receive. The number of spam texts have doubled in the past two years, and will continue to grow. Use these easy instructions to block unwanted and costly emails from your personal cell phone.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • internet connection
  • active T-Mobile account and password
  1. Step 1

Log on to your T-Mobile account at https://my.t-mobile.com through your internet connection. If you have not registered for an online account, you will need to do that first.

  2. Step 2

After logging in and accessing your home page, at the top of the page in the pink dashboard, you see "Communication Tools" at the right before the "Ask T-Mobile" box. Click on "Communication Tools."

  3. Step 3

The next page will be the Communication Tools page. To the right of the page, as it loads, is a box labeled "Resources." The third item down is "Create e-mail filters." Click on that.

  4. Step 4

The next page, "E-Mail Filters and Spam Blocking", has two parts. The top section is how you can create individual filters , and the bottom section allows you to block all emails. As spammers are quite savvy getting past filters, it is best to simply block all e-mails. You can do this by clicking the first "yes" button in the bottom section of this page. If you do receive personal or business e-mails through your phone and want to only block spam, you can click the second "yes" button instead of the first in that bottom section of the page. The second button will allow e-mails that are only sent to your phone, rather than group e-mails, which is how nearly all spam is sent.

  5. Step 5
Spam is just getting started on your cell phone. Stop it before it costs you money.

Log out. You are all set. If you continue to receive spam, contact T-Mobile directly to resolve the problem.

on 11/19/2009 I really hate tmobile. I don't get spam from anyone except tmobile, always trying to sell me offers. I am waiting for my credit to run out, and as soon as it does, I am switching to another service.

on 10/27/2008 These instructions are actually incorrect. I had to search all over T-Mobile's website, but I was finally able to find the following instructions:

Message Blocking

Message Blocking is a service that allows you to block messages to and from your phone. This can help you avoid unwanted messages. Best of all, T-Mobile provides this service to you at no charge!

With Message Blocking you can block incoming and outgoing text messages (SMS), picture messages (MMS), Instant Messages (IM), and e-mail.

NOTE: Blocking incoming and outgoing Instant Messages and e-mail applies to phones which use text messaging to send/receive these messages. If you want to be able to send or receive messages, Message Blocking is not the right service for you. Messaging Blocking is intended to block messages in general, not to prevent overage charges. Message Blocking is not currently available for Prepa
