If you or your loved one is suffering from a sore throat or laryngitis, you know how difficult it can be just to get through the day. It hurts to swallow, and can be impossible to even talk. Here are some steps to help treat a sore throat or laryngitis.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Drink warm liquids, such as tea or warm water with lemon and honey.
Step2
Stir 1/2 teaspoon of salt into one cup of warm water and gargle. Repeat several times a day.
Step3
Children (and many adults) might enjoy the soothing feeling of a cold ice pop for their sore throat.
Step4
Keep a humidifier running in the room or area of the person with the sore throat. Along with lots of fluids, this will help soothe a painful sore throat.
Step5
One of the most important things you can do to treat laryngitis or a sore throat is to get plenty of rest.

Tips & Warnings

  • Call your doctor if your sore throat or laryngitis is severe or lasts more than a few days.
  • Don't smoke when you are trying to recover from a sore throat or laryngitis.
