Bath time can be a fun, stress free experience for your guinea pig. Guinea pigs should be bathed once every six months to keep their coat in good condition.

How to Wash Your Guinea Pigs

  1. Step 1

Place a washcloth in the bottom of the sink or a bucket and fill it up with warm water. The water should be shallow and not be above the guinea pig’s neck.

  2. Step 2

Gently place the guinea pig in the sink or in the bucket. Sometimes a guinea pig feels less stressed when in enclosed spaces, which is why a bucket may be best.

  3. Step 3

Use a small amount of baby shampoo or shampoo made for guinea pigs. Massage the shampoo into the guinea pig’s coat. Do not get soap in the guinea pig’s eyes, ears or nose.

  4. Step 4

Rinse the shampoo off the guinea pig with fresh water from the sink or place them in a new bucket filled with clean water. Do not get water in the guinea pig’s eyes, ears, or nose.

  5. Step 5

Wrap the guinea pig loosely in a towel and try to get most of the water out of its coat.

  6. Step 6

Use a blow dryer on the lowest setting to completely dry the guinea pig.

  7. Step 7

Brush the guinea pig’s coat with a soft toothbrush.
