Gum is fun, but not when it's in your dryer!
Gum is fun, but not when it's in your dryer!

It can happen to anyone. You forget to check the pockets of a pair of pants, or simply don't notice a piece of gum in a shirt pocket. At any rate, you now have gum smeared on the inside of your dryer. What a mess! Fortunately, there are steps you can take to remove gum from your dryer.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Some old towels
  • Dryer sheets or fabric softener
  • Fine steel wool
  1. Step 1

Run a load of old towels in your dryer (on warm) to soften the gum.

  2. Step 2

Dampen several dryer sheets or pour some fabric softener onto a rag or sponge.

  3. Step 3

Wipe the gummy areas of the dryer with wet dryer sheets or fabric softener. Scrub well to remove most of the gum.

  4. Step 4

Finish removing the gum from the dryer by scrubbing it with the steel wool. When finished, wipe the inside of the dryer with a clean, damp cloth followed by a dry cloth.

  5. Step 5

Run a cycle of dampened old rags, just to make sure there is no more gum residue.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don't have any steel wool, try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.
  • Don't use flammable materials, such as Goo Gone or alcohol, inside a dryer.
