A great many people love dressing in Halloween costumes to celebrate the holiday. Many costumes however do little to protect wearers from the cold. While some Halloweens are colder than others are, dressing for Halloween often is more important that staying warm. You do not have to be cold in your Halloween costume however. There are things you can do to dress for a cold Halloween.

From Quick Guide: Leggings Basics
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Long sleeve shirts
  • Leggings
  • Long underwear
  1. Step 1

Put on your long underwear first. Parents used to make children wear long underwear for a reason. It keeps you warm. Wear long sleeved shirts and leggings or sweat pants under your Halloween outfit.

  2. Step 2

Dress in layers. Wearing multiple thin layers is known to keep you warm. It is also possible to wear one or two thin layers under your costume without distracting from or taking away from your costume.

  3. Step 3

Integrate warm street clothes into your costume. Choose a costume that will allow you to wear regular clothes and still be a part of the costume. A Matrix costume for example, would involve regular black pants, a long sleeve black top and a full-length duster jacket. You cannot be cold in that. If you were to be a postage letter for example, you could dress in black shoes, a black pair of pants and a black turtleneck and the costume would go on top.

  4. Step 4

Wear a costume with a cape: For an especially cold Halloween, choose a costume that involves a cape. You could be Elvis, a Vampire, Little Red Riding Hood, or royalty.

  5. Step 5

Make your coat part of the costume: You can be a socialite in a fur coat by just adding a tiara. You can make a pumpkin costume that will fit over a coat or jacket with a green hood. You can turn a black jacket and slacks into a cat costume with the addition of cat ears and makeup. Mittens can also easily be worn as a part of a cat costume.
