How to make Homemade Bird Suet Cakes
Bird watching is an enjoyable hobby. Using ordinary ingredients from your kitchen, you can make suet cakes that will attract wild birds to your yard through the winter months. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Saucepan
- solid shortening
- quick oats
- peanut butter
- cornmeal
- seeds
- raisins
- bread crumbs
- container for mold
- bird seed

To the melted shortening mixture, add 3 cups plain cornmeal. Mix thoroughly.

Pour the suet mixture into a plastic container lined with aluminum foil. Place your suet in the refrigerator to cool. Refrigerating the suet will turn it to a solid block that will hold together while feeding the birds.

Once the bird suet is cooled and solid, remove it from your container, dispose of the aluminum foil and place the finished suet into your suet cage. Suet cages can be found with the bird feeders at most home centers.
