The most classic way to shave, and the most effective, is by using what is called a straight razor. These are essentially straight-bladed razors that fold in, much like a folding comb. Most barbers still use a straight razor because it really offers a clean and smooth shave. Many people are perplexed by these types of razors due to the fact that you are applying a really sharp blade to your skin. However, shaving with straight razor is actually rather simple. These steps will outline the simplicity of this process so you can easily shave with a straight razor.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shaving cream
  • Aftershave lotion
  • Straight razor
  • Mirror
  • Towel
  1. Step 1

Apply shaving lotion. Spray an ample amount of the shaving lotion in your hands and evenly cover the area of your face that you wish to shave.

  2. Step 2

Use the straight razor to shave. The trick to using a straight razor is to hold the blade of the razor at a 45-degree angle to your face and lightly stroke across the skin following the grain of your hair. Let the shaving lotion work as lubricate and lightly press the razor to you skin and allow it to glide off. Wipe any excess shaving lotion from the blade using your towel and keep shaving until you are finished.

  3. Step 3

Apply the aftershave. Once you are finished shaving, use your towel to wipe any leftover shaving cream from your face. Next, apply about a dime-sized amount of aftershave to your hands. Rub your hands together and then lightly pat them on your face over the area where you just shaved.

Tips & Warnings
  • The trick here is following the grain of your beard.
  • Do not go against the grain--you could cause razor burn or a rash.
